Color of the Year: PANTONE 15-5519

Happy New Year! Did you know that PANTONE chooses one color a year as THE color of the year? Twenty-ten's color is the PANTONE 15-5519 (aka Turquoise), which they call "an inviting, luminous hue."

I don't know about their claim that "Turquoise Transports Us to an Exciting, Tropical Paradise While Offering a Sense of Protection and Healing in Stressful Times," but I do know that I've been into bright jewel tones lately, and a strong turquoise or teal could really scratch that itch.

I scoured some lovely vintage finds on etsy, and have a little color inspiration for the year. So much pretty turquoise and other shades of blue and green!

Spotted: AHV on Wardobe Remix

We sold a lovely little plaid vintage day dress to a cute Etsy buyer a few months ago and shipped it off to Italy .. the next thing we know, she's been featured on the latest Wardrobe Remix roundup, wearing our dress!

I love perusing Wardrobe Remix for fashion inspiration, so it is fun to see some of our pieces making their way into the mix.

Shop Update: Gifts!

We thought we'd finally get a few things in the "knickknack" category, since the holidays are just around the corner.

Just in case you were wondering if that first photo was of some Hulkamania lunch sacks ... it is. Your sandwiches have never been so safe.

DIY: Pompom Christmas Wreath

One of AHV's favorite Etsyians, Yokoo (creater of the most fabulous oversized knit scarves and other accessories) has been discovered and exploited by Urban Outfitters ... to everyone's benefit!

She posted an easy tutorial on making this wonderful Soopa Pompom Christmas Wreath on their blog:

Of course, if I were that good with my fingers, I would make my own natucket cowl instead of scheming about how i can justify buying one from her.

Thankful

I have a very long list of things I'm grateful for. I found this picture and it captures some things about this blog that I'm grateful for. I am very grateful to have great stylish friends like Bex, who live in SF with me, and love beautiful old clothes. Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!

Best Gift Ever: 5 Year Diary

The holidays are upon us, and everyone will be hunting down the perfect gift. Make it easy on yourself - give everyone a Five Year Diary.

What is this magic journal, you may ask? The cute little book lets you keep track of your life with just a few lines every day for five years. Each page of the journal is devoted to one day of the year and subdivided into five sections, so that as time goes by, past entries for that same date can be read as new ones are written. In other words, you can see what you did on November 20 every day for five years running! Plus, even someone with as short an attention span as me can fill out a few short lines a day.

Of course, I was pretty excited when I stumbled upon a vintage five-year diary from the 30s in the thrift store. Turns out, they were kind of a big deal in the 20s and 30. Yet again - those brilliant folks of the past prove they had all the good ideas first.

You can often find really great vintage ones on eBay (though it can sometimes be tough to find them new and not written in by someone else's grandma).

This little red gem is available to bid on right now:

OR, there are a few cute new versions you can buy in bulk:

And the best part is, whoever you give it to has to think about you every day for the next five years. (thanks to MLE for discovering these first)
