Vintage Organization: Pyrex

If you're like us, some of your resolve for 2012 is focused on de-cluttering and organizing your life. We've decided to put together a series on how to use vintage items to keep your life ship shape.

Up first is my desk. I've found that certain things just need to be easily accessible. Luckily vintage pyrex fridge dishes fit all the little things (lipstick, airline frequent flyer cards, and change) perfectly. You can find some similar to these on etsy or ebay . I added a vintage San Francisco glass to hold my pens. Easy, cheap and, my desk now makes me happy to catch a glimpse of.

Vintage Renewal: Sleevefaces

I know alot of people cringe at the idea of re-using vinyl records (unless they're too scratched for playing music any more) in "creative repurposing" projects, which is what makes Sleeveface such an awesome idea. Participants take photos of themselves with a record sleeve obscuring or augmenting any part of their body or bodies, causing an illusion, and no records get harmed during the creative process.

All of a sudden, those piles of records you pass in the thrift store conjure up so many fun potential photos:

Vintage Renewal: Kasbah Mod Typewriters

Vintage typewriters are pretty cute on their own, but I like the looks of these revamped ones from Kasbah Mod. These "rejuvenated" typewriters are fully-functional and professionally restored to their original working condition, with a little kick to freshen their look: Color block two-toned typewriters, chrome/gold/metallic plated typewriters and artist prints turn each typewriter into a work of art:

If the $800+ price point is a little high, maybe it could be a fun DIY project for a rainy day?

I'm always a fan of old packaging, and got a kick out of the command printed on the box that this lovely paper fan came in:

Keep cool and be gay!

I know that gay had a different connotation back in the day, but I still think it is a funny admonition from a fan - the keeping cool part I can understand, but the command to go forth and be happy with nothing more than a small fan suggests powerful things from this little paper treasure.

Estate Sale Finds: Pattern Frenzy

I've been really interested in the trend of mixing a lot of prints and patterns lately, so I was delighted to find a number of shirts at an estate sale last week that push the boundaries of colors/patterns that I might normally wear.

I already had some fun mixing a bright floral blouse with a simple high waisted black and white striped skirt, and am interested to experiment with some of the other wild patterns in those blouses.

Animal Head Art: New AHV Mascots

I always love picking up beautiful old portraits of discarded ancestors at estate sales or flea markets and have been plotting a few crafts with them so that they aren't relegated to the shoebox where I keep them currently.

I'm no photoshop expert, but I know my way around the program well enough to have a little fun. These are some new mascots I created for the shop and blog from some photos I picked up in Detroit a few weeks back. I think these two would have made quite a pair:

Friday Estate Find: Vintage Pink Bathroom Scale

I've said it before, but one of my favorite things about estate sales is getting to check out the interior of someone else's house and get a sense for how they lived and what their style was. Some people you feel like you would have liked alot, based soley on their choice of wallpaper and couches.

This week I walked into a pretty nondescript estate sale. Nothing in the house would have made you suspect that there was anything but a normal, slightly boring, neutral color loving couple that lived there. That is, until I stepped into the upstairs bathrooom and was immediately overwhelmed by the amount of pink that had been amassed in such a small tiled space. It looked like Barbie had been throwing a Pepto Bismol party. Pink, pink, pink from floor to ceiling.

Suddenly my idea of the couple that had lived there changed. Maybe the husband had been insistent on a neutral color palatte throughout the house, despite living there through more colorful decades like the 70s. I imagined the woman, muttering under her breath things like "so you think pink should just be an "accent" color, do you?" as she carefully placed the pink shag bathmat underneath the pink porcelain toilet bowl.

The one thing I salvaged from the place was this pink scale for our neutral gray and white bathroom. I swear, husband, its just an accent piece.

DIY Tutorials: Vintage Record Bunting and Cake Plates

Maybe you'll remember that we participated in our first ever pop-up shop awhile back!

When selling in person you have to think much more about decor and presentation, so I came up with a few vintage-inspired pieces of decor to liven my space up.

I made some cute bunting out of old Vintage 45 Record Sleeves, and some display plates out of old records:

Here they were in action at the shop:

The decor was perfect for the shop, but I think they would also work if you were throwing a vintage or music themed party as well.

Estate Sale Finds: Matching Undies

Thanks to everyone who came out to our Pop-up Shop over the weekend! We made some new friends and had a grand old time getting to see all of our dresses hanging up and being looked at in person.

I'll have some photos to share of the event, but in the meantime, I had to share my favorite estate find of last week. I stumbled upon the home of a woman who loved pretty slips and square dancing. I had to bring home this matching set - a big poofy crinoline for optimal skirt volume, and the matching ruffled undies for when she did that move where you get pulled through your partners legs and then do a flip. You know the one.

Vintage Wedding Dresses

I've been meaning to share some of the vintage details of my wedding here on this blog. I tried to incorporate vintage touches wherever I could in the wedding, so I'm sure I'll have a few posts to share.

For now, I want to talk about my dress - I already knew I wanted a vintage dress, so when I stumbled upon the perfect ruffled knee-length white dress, I bought it immediately (even though technically I wasn't even engaged yet - it was too good to let go):

I'm a huge fan of the short wedding dress trend, but mostly just like that people seem to be doing whatever they want to with their dresses these days. Long, short, plain or colorful - its all okay, as long as the dress just screams "you". The dress I bought wasn't technically a "wedding" dress - I think it was a 50s prom number, but it worked.

Estate Sale Finds: Gas Shaver

One of my favorite things to find in my estate sale wanderings is old weird gadgets that at the time were probably try to be the "next big thing" but never quite made it. Usually the packaging is beautiful, and whatever odd contraption they came up with to sell looks like it might have done more harm than good.

Estate Sale Finds: Irish Love

I got to spend Friday with my friend Sarah perusing estate sales here in San Francisco. I mostly just found small doo-dads that I couldn't pass up: some dishes from Finland, velvet hair bows and a bunch of peter pan fur collars.

We did have some fun the home of an Irish couple, and Sarah discovered an entire box of their old love notes. She tells the full story here, but I just had to at least share this set: a cute St Patrick's Day love note ... and what we suspect is the green tie that the note is referring to:

I love estate sales because I'd like to think that they help people's stories continue. Hope that Sarah's Tom enjoys this package deal as much as Maggee's Tom must have.

Alameda Flea Outfit

I always like it when bloggers post photos of themselves in their real-life clothes, but I've never had the time (or live-in photographer) to make it work. I was at the Alameda Flea Market a few weeks ago and was stopped by the cute gal over at Fashionist.

I thought I'd share the photos of my outfit that she posted:

She had asked me what my fashion inspiration was, but her phone didn't record my response properly, which is good because she summed up what I told her in a more eloquent manner than what I managed to come up with on the spot. As she mentioned, I love this vintage dress because it was made of this really beautiful hand loomed/ handmade indigenous type fabric, but was cut in a flattering late 1950s/1960s silhouette. It was a casual outfit to stroll the flea market in, but kind of fun to fun to be noticed!

The interwebs are abuzz with news that Pendleton is introducing a new line for next fall with slimmer fits, and a more modern look, dubbed the 'Portland Collection'. I'm going back and forth on this one. The early 90's saw a lot of the horse blanket + silver work button look. I'm not sure I'm reay to go back-- what about you?

Vintage Renewal - Car seats

I always like to see some creative reuse for everyday objects that would otherwise go to waste. These companies are putting good use to the interiors of cars that have seen their last U-turn:

Platinum Dirt makes leather jackets out of leather Cadillac seats. Each VIN Jacket is handmade and completely unique. The $1200 price point is a little steep ... but I guess it is cheaper than actually owning a Caddie. The ladies can always pick up an oddly shaped purse or clutch as well. I like that they keep the Cadillac insignia on the leather, and use the hood ornaments and other decals as zipper pulls:

Talking Pictures

My darling mother sent me a link to a column on mentalfloss by a dude named Ransom Riggs called Talking Pictures. He started collecting old photos at swapmeets and antique stores that had writing on the back of them. Though often it is just boring identifying information, sometimes you find really funny, revealing, emotional, surprising notes that transform the photo from something kind of anonymous into something really personal.

Here are a few of my favorites, though there are so many good ones it is hard to choose the best:

"In the sun."

DIY: Vintage Tin Candles

I have a huge collection of vintage tins - many from my grandmother, and many that were just too pretty not to buy. I store all sorts of odds and ends inside of them, but loved this easy Design Sponge project on making your own candles out of vintage tins. Can you say my new go-to homemade gift?

Vintage Renewal - The BOOMcase

Every generation has worked to make music portable. I am always on the hunt for old record players that run on batteries, perfect for taking to the lake for picnics. And the 80's had the boombox-on-shoulder thing down. So it is only logical that we'd get some portable speakers for our iPod generation as well.

Check out these stylish numbers, or "BoomCases," made by Sacramento-based sound wizard Dominic "Si-Mo." He embeds 30-, 50- and 200-watt speaker systems into awesomely vintage found luggage, and says that the sound from these babies could power an entire houseparty, which means bringing the tunes to your next picnic will be ... a picnic.

If you are someone who is handy with tools and things with wires, you may be able to make your own. Otherwise, prices for the BoomCase start at $250 for a plug-in, or $300 for a battery/plug-in case (though most look to have sold for closer to $400).

Wear Everything All The Time

I read a post by Sal of Already Pretty today (via Yes and Yes) that really resonated with me. Maybe it is because I am in the midst of moving all of my things, and am realizing how much stuff I own that I love and just don't use. I really enjoyed her musings on making use of the things we own - otherwise, what is the point of owning them?

(paraphrased and edited a tad below - full text here)

When I wear white, I eat spaghetti. Or drink coffee. Or munch on Cheetos. Or write with Sharpies or open cans of motor oil or serve grape juice to passing children or basically do any and everything possible to STAIN THE LIVING BEJEEZUS OUT OF MY CLOTHING. But I wear white anyway because what’s the point of owning it if it doesn’t get worn?

I am trying to apply this philosophy to my fancy and special-occasion garments, too. Why should those languish just because they’re flashy, or dressy, or stylized, or a wee bit more delicate than my standard boots and tee-shirts? As many have said before me, none of my clothes are "too good" for me to wear them. If I own something, it should be fair game.

But how can flashy, dressy, stylized, or delicate items get worked into daily outfits?

Don’t worry about it: ...If I am so worried about ruining something that I won’t ever wear it, I might as well not own it at all. It’s relegated to closet candy and what they hell good is that? If something gets worn and damaged, it can generally be repaired somehow. If something gets worn and ruined, well, them’s the breaks. I realize that’s some tough love, especially when we might be talking heirloom garments or investment pieces … but you hear me, right? You might as well have set your money on fire if you’ve bought a garment or accessory only to let it gather dust.

Create balance: Whatever your superspecial item may be, make sure it’s the only superspecial thing about your outfit. This is particularly important if you’re dressing down a formal garment. Balance is created when you pair that sequined bustier with jeans and a black blazer, or when you wear your gigantic rhinestone bib necklace with a simple tee and black pencil skirt. Make sure there is plenty of casual and commonplace to counteract the jolt of formal and unusual.

Layer, layer, layer: The more stuff you've got on, the more a formal or flashy piece just looks like part of the mix. And even in summer, lightweight layers can help tone down a loud item. A mondo necklace is much less mondo when it's peeking out from a button-down shirt with a shrunken corduroy blazer thrown over it. A slinky formal dress becomes a sassy skirt when you pile a cowlneck sweater and cozy wrap on top. Those special occasion pieces will be far comfier if they have a wide variety of OTHER pieces to play amongst.

None of your clothes are better than you: Who exactly owns whom, I ask yas? If you've laid down your hard-earned cash for a piece of clothing, it had better earn its keep. It's something you liked, something that fit your figure and suited your personal style, and it's something that made you feel good. So allow it to make you feel good more than just once or twice in your lifetime. YOU'RE gorgeous and special, beautiful and luminous. Why not wear the items you own that make you feel that way?

I love this post. I first experienced this concept at a young age, when I kept my first bottle of perfume hidden away in my dresser. I loved the smell of it, and would pull it out and wear it only on what I deemed "special" occasions. Well, five years passed, and that bottle was still in my dresser, and still depressingly full. At that point, I didn't even love the scent any more and ended up getting rid of it. It was a tangible reminder that every occasion should be as special as you want it to be, and that if you hold something back and save it for what you think is the "right time", you get a whole lot less use out of it than if you just wore it when you wanted to. If you love something ... use it!

I'm not sure why, but after reading the blog post, the photo spread of Emma Watson in the August 2009 Teen Vogue popped into my head. I think when I first saw these photos, I loved how casual these otherwise fancy-pants skirts and dresses were turned with a deftly placed teeshirt or blazer or pair of funky tights.

Animal Head Art - Black Apple

I always love whatever the Black Apple has up her sleeve, and she doesn't disappoint with this little round of animal headed folk, painted onto little scalloped wooden plaques. She is putting them up for sale at noon PST/3pm EST tomorrow (Wed, Oct 27), and I am sure they will go like hotcakes, though that won't stop me from trying to buy the birdhead boy for myself.

If we are lucky, she will turn them into a postcard set for all of us to enjoy.

I've been meaning to blog about the lovely Carrie of Swift Vintage for a few months now, ever since I accidentally stumbled upon her shop during one of my many trips to Burbank while I was planning my wedding. I'd actually seen Swift's shop on etsy, and had already been admiring some of their bright pieces, and was delighted to find that their brick and mortar shop was just as lovely and full of treasures as their online store. Plus, Carrie runs the place, perched behind her sewing machine, surrounded by well groomed dress forms while fixing up lovely old frocks and coats. She's pretty much living in my dream job. She's lovely, and she runs a lovely space:

So, I own many a typewriter and always lament that they don't seem terribly practical for much else than decor on a shelf, or writing the occasional love letter. Enter USBtyewriter. This dude converts vintage typewriters into keyboards for your computer. You can purchase one all ready to go for $500, or buy the kit and do it yourself for around $50. Either way ... holy awesome.

I am back from my wedding and Italian honeymoon, and excited to finally have time to focus on the shop again! I've actually been stockpiling clothes for the store, so we'll be having some really great items listed in the next few weeks.

While in Venice, I picked up some really fun new handpainted paper mache animal masks (they have so many wonderful ones there! i wanted to buy all of them. some of my favorites were probably too creepy for the shop (how many sexy alligators or elephants do you see walking around?) but we did get a few that won't detract too much from the clothing ; )

I just read this funny article on how Mad Men has sparked a revival in 50's and 60's clothing styles, including high waist briefs. The article claims that the ladies are ditching their g-strings for some more full coverage underneath it all.

I know that the "big knickers" that the article is talking about carries the stigma of granny panties, but these companies are proving that you can go high-waisted without going granny.

My day-job is in marketing, so I can appreciate this cookbook I came upon, sponsored by none other than Crisco. Entitled "New Recipes For Good Eating" and showing a happy family reaching for a huge pile of freshly greased doughnuts on the cover, or course. I am sure Crisco was a key ingredient in every recipe in this book, but that the families weren't quite as overjoyed when they found out that "Good Eating" like that leads to obesity.

Every time I visit a new place, I do a little research first on their thrift stores and vintage/antique shops. I was in Phoenix with a little extra time, recently, and spent all day crawling through some of their thrift stores. I've made a (hopefully) helpful map of Phoenix Vintage shops and other places that seem like they should be of interest if you ever make it out that way, and will share a few of my favorites on the blog.

Retro Ranch was a nice little shop specializing in mostly 50's - 70's furniture and housewares, with a neat little vintage clothing section in the back. Prices seemed reasonable, and the folks at the counter were friendly. Plus, the area it was located in had lots of similar vintage shops nearby (called the "Melrose" district, I believe).

Clothing section run by Lollypop Vintage.

I was excited to walk away with a set of four mint condition Frankoma (which I love was named after creator John Frank and the last three letters of the state of Oklahoma) mid-century platter plates, with the best imprint designed into the sides that reminds me of little aztec robots.

DIY: Vintage Lace Jewelry

I made it out to the Vintage Clothing and Textile Show in Los Angeles a few weeks ago, which features a number of sellers vending antique textiles and some lovely vintage clothing.

I love looking at all the dead stock lace and trims that the vendors have managed to find.

Even if you don't sew, I like the idea of turning some of the pretty delicate lace pieces into jewelry, like these necklaces and earrings from White Owl:

Estate Jewelry - Antique Wedding Rings

So, a major reason for the radio silence around the shop (besides all the traveling that has been happening lately) is the fact that I am engaged and getting married in under three months! So, rather than just ignore the internet like I have been doing, maybe I will blog about some of the wedding details that I am working on. We are incorporating a lot of vintage touches into the wedding, so there should be plenty to talk about!

I knew I wanted a vintage ring, and would have loved to have used some of my own family jewelry, though the rings my grandmother left us are a little more ostentatious than I wanted for my every day ring. My fiance ended up finding this little gem at a rummage sale benefit for a local museum - we got a really great deal on it since we didn't buy it from a store that had already marked it up past its appraised value, and I love the art deco feel to it and how low it sits to my finger. (it is actually a platinum ring from the 40s)

One of my favorite vintage/antique engagement rings is owned by my friend Emily, and was purchased at Lang Antiques here in San Francisco.

It is an estate ring, probably Edwardian, with a 2.5 carat rose cut diamond. Rose cut diamonds stopped being produced around 1900, but the cut gives it a low profile from the side and makes that 2.5 carat look huge.

Obviously I really like the round rings - if you want to emulate the look without spending too much, fake it here with a CV vintage style ring for a mere $38.

I looked around quite a bit online for good estate jewelry, but found that it didn't compare to checking the rings out in person. Do you guys have any good estate jewelry sources?

Vacation Inspiration - Peru!

We took a vacation from this blog a little longer than planned! The volcano did indeed ruin our trip to Paris, but I just unpacked all my cute day dresses and oxford shoes and packed my hiking boots and dirty jeans for Peru instead. It was a wonderful trip (maybe even better than Paris) and one of the things that I noticed was the wonderful bright colors that the Peruvian women were sporting. Some of the sweaters that they had were straight neon pink or blue or yellow - so bright! And they got away with matching all sorts of patterns and colors for a really colorful effect.

I think I've been channelling a little of that brightness is my own closet, since it seems like my new favorite color is the BRIGHT orange of the 60s/70s. These are a few of my own eye-popping vintage pieces:

DIY: paper award ribbon

MLE has a pretty great collection of vintage horse ribbons - you know the kind - colorful, with a big rosette medallion in the middle. We always talk about how she was way ahead of the game on prize ribbons, since now I see them as decor, brooches, en masse in the Camper Store window display in London, etc.

I still always vote vintage, but I stumbled on a tutorial the other day with instructions on how to make your own ribbon out of paper, and it was too cute to pass up.

How to make make a mini medallion:

1. Cut a 3/4" strip off a piece of 6" origami paper and accordian fold it to create tiny pleats.

2. Join the ends together with a bit of glue or double-stick tape.

3. Cut a couple sizes of cardstock circles to layer for the center.

4. Press the pleated circle flat and glue your center circles onto it. It will want to pop back up, so set a quarter or something lightweight on top until it dries. Or hold it down with one hand while you surf the internet with the other, my chosen method.

5. Cut more paper into ribbon tails and glue them to the back.

To make larger medallions, cut wider paper strips and splice several accordian-folded pieces together.

DIY: Lace Fingernails

Spied this tutorial for lace fingernails over on Behind the Seams the other day, and immediately wanted to start shopping for 80s prom dresses to rock these lace fingernails with.

DIY your own rockin' fingers!

Supplies you will need:

* clear top coat (top coat is designed to dry hard and protect your nails from scratches and chips, so don't just use any ol' clear polish)
* scissors
* toothpick
* black LACE
* a little patience

Step 1: Measure and trim the lace to fit each finger nail.

Step 2: Polish a single layer of top coat.

Step 3: Apply the trimmed lace on top of the wet polish.

Step 4: Firmly press the outer corners of the lace with a toothpick.

Step 5: Let the polish and lace dry for a few minutes

Step 6: Finish with two more applications of top coat.

They've been previewing Oliver Peoples' 2010 Campaign since last September, but I just barely saw this short film 'Les enfants sennuient le dimanche (The children are bored on Sundays), directed by Autumn De Wilde. It is basically a commercial for glasses, but I always like when art seeps into advertisements.

Featuring the dashing Elijah Wood in a sharp lookin' suit and a sultry Shirley Manson. Soundtrack perfection by Zee Avi.

Things to love:

DIY Holidays: Vintage Silk Tie Dyed Easter Eggs

Easter is next week, and I have always loved this project where you can dye easter eggs using old vintage silk ties.

All you need are some 100% silk ties (your local thrift store should have a bevy in fun patterns) and some white vinegar. Full instructions found here. (Of course, Martha Stewart featured it first).

Vintage Shopping: Eyeglasses

I wear glasses every day of my life, and am always looking for fun novelty frames to add to my collection. At the Vintage Expo I was excited to discover a shop called Allyn Scura with one of the largest selections of vintage glasses that I have seen in one place. Most of the frames were 'new-old-stock,' which means they've never even been worn. They do have a website, but the stock listed there is pretty limited. You should check these guys out in person at one of the shows they do (mostly southern california, it appears). It is easier to see which frames look best on you in person anyway.

At the Vintage Expo last weekend, one of the vendors, Rubaiyat, was selling some pretty great locally handmade shoes. I have big feet, which means vintage shoes in good shape aren't always easy to come by for the clunkers I walk around on. The great thing about Rubaiyat is, they say "if you can dream it, we can make it." They've been making handcrafted shoes for 40 odd years now, so they know what they are doing.

I only grabbed a few shots before they asked me to stop taking photos (when i'm just giving them free press. hmph), but hopefully you can get a sense of the fun chunky styles and bold leathers that they use:

Vintage Shopping Destination: Vintage Expo 2010

Over the weekend I ended up at the Vintage Expo here in San Francisco. This show features about 80 sellers, hawking everything from serious couture to simple little day dresses. Everything I saw was in exquisite condition, but usually had the pricetag to match. Still - if you are looking for a really nice, unique dress or suit for some sort of special occasion, this would be a good place to find it.

What to Wear: Cropped Trousers

I'll be honest - the pants in my wardrobe don't vary much between jeans or leggings these days (my go-to for "dressing up" a little is always skirts and dresses), but all the cropped trousers that everyone is pulling off right now is inspiring me to get out of my comfort zone and maybe find myself wearing something other than skirts with tights.

Vintage Knits: Scandia! by Bernat book 98

I was at a rummage sale the other day, and though I don't really knit (especially anything that isn't a simple long rectangle or requires more than one color of yarn) i couldn't pass this knitting pattern book up because the styling of the photos was just so great. It is from 1961, and the colors are wonderful, as are the expressions on those models.

Film Inspiration: Alice in Wonderland

I went to a midnight showing of Tim Burton's new Alice in Wonderland last night, and liked it so much I didn't even yawn once despite the late hour. As always, Burton's characters are characters, and the imagery is stunning.

I especially liked the vintage feel to Alice's blue dresses, and her wonderful blue coat with rickrack dress underneath in the final scene.

I love Regresty, where some very clever folks poke fun at some of the ridiculous things they find on etsy. I know Regretsy might seem a little harsh at times, but man, I LOL all the time when reading it.

Animal Head Fashion - Topshop Unique

Spotted on the runway of London Fashion Week ... Topshop Unique. The show was inspired by Woodland Creatures and styled by Katie Grand, and the models all wore fantastic animal hats along with their wild hair and bushy eyebrows. The clothing was pretty fun too, though I'll admit the costuming took the cake for me here:

Word is that in the goodie bags at the show, attendees walked away with a "Victorinox survival kit", which offered 13 tools for fashion week survival, including a two-inch knife. Not your normal lip gloss and bangles, huh?

We tried shooting on our roof this time around, so check out our new cityscape background!

Looks like we can't decide to keep embracing Winter or get excited about Spring. We'll have coats and capes, as well as frocks and dresses ... all showing up in the shop over the next few weeks.

Sonia Rykiel pour H&M Spring 2010

As long as I am on the subject of collaborations ...

I've been trying not to buy too much new clothing this year, and only stick to thrifting or second hand stores like buffalo exchange, but i confess that i am probably going to break that resolution to pick up some of the H&M Sonia Rykiel knitwear that hits stores tomorrow. That striped yellow sweater and those studded pants are too great to pass up. I've always loved what Sonia could do with knit.

I think there is part of me that still knows that these low-priced collaborations are lower quality than the designer originals. . . but the price tag makes it hard to beat. I'd sure prefer the real thing (especially vintage Sonia - yeehaw) but I like that these designers are putting their lovely pieces into the hands of more people. Or, maybe that is actually making what they do a little less special. What do you think - are these low priced collaborations diluting the brands of the designers putting their names on them? Do you think the designers are selling out?

Liberty of London for Target

Target! You've done it again. Liberty of London has the best prints, and it is nice that us statesiders can get our hands on their florals more easily come March when the collaboration hits stores.

Sounds like they'll have menswear, womenswear, clothes for kids and housewares such as melamine plates, gardening gloves, picture frames, pillows planters, A BIKE, purty peacock pillows and more.

24 days til launch? I haven't been this excited since the Orla collab.

Check out this free Madeline Mini Bloomers pattern to download from Collette Patterns. I like the modern interpretation of the more prissy Victorian style bloomer. With just two simple pattern pieces, a beginner who is comfortable with elastic and buttonholes can make these sassy little pants.

DIY: Vintage Teacups

I've been holding on to my grandmother's teacups for awhile, but don't really throw enough honest-to-goodness tea parties to make them see the light of day as often as I'd like.

Luckily, there are re-purposed vintage teacup projects all over the internet (thanks, internet!), so now it might just be a matter of figuring out which project would best display that fine china. Teacups are pretty easy to come by in any respectable thrifting locale, so it shouldn't be too hard to scoop up some of your own for projects.
